Hong Kong is the setting ofSleeping Dogs. It is not geographically mapped, but tuned for gameplay, as it's purpose is for gamers to enjoy a living playground and opportunities for fighting, driving and shooting.

Hong Kong is a big island, so there is a big part for boat racing missions. The city is also very dense and heavily crowded (which makes free running sequences come to life). There are many ways to spend time in Hong Kong. Some activities include shopping, buying safehouses, visiting gambling dens, watching cock fights, going to massage parlours and doing karaoke.

  • United Front Games once wanted to add all the boroughs into the game, but it was deemed impossible.
  • Despite Hong Kong being the setting, there are no real life cities, (such as Kowloon) towns, villages, or islands surrounding the Hong Kong region. Although there are a few areas that were inspired by some towns, cities, and regions in Hong Kong, and a few districts were named after real-life neighbourhoods.
